Viruses are infections in a computer system that cause the system to malfunction in various ways. In the Tron Universe, they always have characteristic green circuitry.

Overview

In the game Tron 2.0 there is a viral infection caused by J.D. Thorne as a result of digitizing without the correction algorithms. Thorne himself turned into a virus, and calling himself a "Master User", he spreads this corruption through the ENCOM systems by infecting programs. There are two main types of viral scripts.

Types of Viruses

  • Z-Lots are simple viruses. They are usually easy to kill, but they swarm in the masses. They are either created by direct infection, or spawned in by Rector Scripts.
  • Rector Scripts are more complex viruses. They are very hard to kill, but a headshot with a disc will derez them immediately. They can spawn in Z-Lots, making them even harder to attack.

Weapons

The main weapons of Viruses are Balls. Balls are glowing, green blobs of data that have corrosive and infective properties.

Varieties of Balls

Balls come in different sorts, each with different properties.

  • Ball Primitives are simple grenades. They are thrown and cause splash damage, making them very hard to dodge. These are used by Z-Lots and Jet.
  • The Ball Launcher is a sort of grenade launcher, launching Balls much farther than what is possible with the Ball Primitive. These are also used by Z-Lots and Jet.
  • Drunken Dims is an extremely deadly projectile weapon used only by Jet. It fires a number of mini-Balls in a straight path in front of the user of this weapon. Rector Scripts use a weaker weapon similar to this called Corruptic Dims.

Ball's Affect on System Memory

When hit by a ball, Jet's system memory is corrupted. This happens in two ways.

  • Bad Blocks are peices of empty system memory that are corrupted, so they can no longer be filled with Sub-routines. They can be gotten rid of using the De-Frag procedural.
  • Subroutines can be infected so they no longer work. This infection can then be spread to other sub-routines if not disinfected.
