TRON: Uprising main title

TRON: Uprising is an upcoming animated science fiction TV series, part of the TRON franchise, which will air on Disney's television channel Disney XD, in the United States. The show is set to air in summer 2012. It will be directed by Charlie Bean, who will also act as executive producer. Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz will produce the series. The television series is somewhat based on the TRON: Evolution PSP story.

Plot

Beck is a young program who becomes the skillful leader of a revolution inside the computer world of the Grid. His mission is to free his home and friends from the reign of the villainous Clu and his henchman General Tesler. Beck will be trained by Tron, the greatest warrior the Grid has ever known. Tron will not only teach Beck the fighting, and light cycle skills he needs to challenge this brutal military occupation, but he will be a guide and mentor to him as he grows beyond his youthful, impulsive nature into a courageous, powerful, strong leader. Destined to become "the next Tron", Beck adopts Tron's persona and becomes the arch enemy of General Tesler and his oppressive forces.

Canonicity

It is currently unknown if the series will be canon with the movies, but it is leaning towards non-canon, as it is introducing characters that cannot be logically placed into the flow of events set up by the movies. Furthermore, if Clu's villainous intentions are known by this time, then Tron would have to be Rinzler and could not be training a program and Flynn would be in hiding with Quorra. The first trailer of TRON: Uprising shows Rinzler subduing Beck, asking him "Do you really think that if they believe Tron's alive it will inspire a revolution?". This means that Tron has already become Rinzler by the time Beck starts his revolution. In addition, the bio for Tron mentions that the latter lives in seclusion after being damaged in a battle against Clu, looking for a program to become his successor. When or how Tron eventually becomes Rinzler in the chronological timeline of the TRON universe is a mystery as it interferes with the story lines set by TRON: Legacy and TRON: Evolution, adding further question about the canonicity of the series.

TRON: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski has stated that he has had no input on the series.
