Notable users: Flynn, Jet Bradley
In Tron 2.0, they were converted into "recognizer tugs" where multiple

recognizers where connected together into a mass rapid transit vehicle for programs

A Recognizer (also known as a Reco by both programs and Users; Ram also called them Demons) is a hovering vehicle used by the MCP's army to capture conscripts and programs. It is extremely big and makes an unique ominous sound when hovering. It captures programs by rotating its "legs" to make a single limb and literally "stomps" on the program, however this doesn't harm the program but just simply captures it. What happens exactly right after a program gets "stomped" on by a recognizer is currently unknown. '

In Tron 2.0: Killer App (GBA), recognizers are fitted with a cannon, similar to the cannon of a tank. The position of the cannon on the recognizers body is on its shoulder. In Tron, Flynn stumbles upon what he thought was rubble, but turned out to be a recognizer cockpit. With his User powers, Flynn reactivated the recognizer and it automatically reassembled. The control are, as Flynn pointed out to Ram, similar to arcade controllers. The recogniser can be flown by just 1 operator, although most carry 2, a driver and radar/radio operator. The total capacity is 1 driver, 1 radar operator, 1 radio operator, and a commander.

[edit] Trivia

  • The Recognizer has a resemblance to Maximilian from the film also made by Disney a few years earlier before Tron, The Black Hole. This resemblance is probably a complete coincidence.

  • The memorable sound of the Recognizers was created by recording the propellers of the Goodyear Blimp and adding a "Phaser" effect in post-production, to give it its "pingy" noise.
