Loyd Catlett is an actor and body double who performed the role of Kevin Flynn in both TRON and TRON: Legacy, in shots where the character's primary actor, Jeff Bridges, was not needed, or for stunt work where Bridges' safety was paramount.

Biography

Born in Lubbock, Texas, Catlett began his performance career as a rodeo cowboy and performed in community theatre. Injuries soon turned him away from aspirations of continuing rodeo professionally, and he turned towards his skills as an actor instead. His move to screen acting took a significant turn when he was cast in the 1971 movie, The Last Picture Show, along with the young Jeff Bridges. The two young men struck up a lasting friendship and Catlett followed Bridges back to Los Angeles to further his acting career.

Catlett's career as an actor has earned him minor roles in a significant number of pictures in the years since. Notably in TRON, he performed stand-in roles in addition to body-double and stunts for the role of the film's main protagonist, Kevin Flynn. The association with Bridges has lead him to become Bridges' "official stand-in" for more than forty years. His riding skills became particularly useful in the role of Rooster Cogburn in the 2010 film, True Grit.

Remarkably, the friendship of the two men has lead to several observations both from themselves and and from external sources. Catlett claims that if Bridges is considering a new role he will email Loyd for a second opinion. The pair also reportedly exchanged a frequent series of emails when comparing the beards they were both required to grow for their performances in True Grit.

Loyd Catlett's somewhat secret life as Bridges' double was revealed during the 2010 Golden Globe ceremony when Bridges secured the Best Actor award for a drama performance. His acceptance speech acknowledged Catlett with the words, "I want to thank my stand-in Loyd Catlett. We've been in over fifty- sixty, movies together, man. Thank you Loyd."
