The Lightcycle Staging Pit is the waiting area for programs who will be competing in Lightcycle matches on the Game Grid. Most programs who go through this area do not live to see them again. The most notable example of this is when Tron, Flynn, and Ram meet. Sark was in control of this area prior to 1982, before Tron destroyed the MCP.
TRON 2.0
In TRON 2.0, the Kernel was in charge of the Lightcycle Arena and Staging Pit. Once he had Kernelsupport.api detain Jet, Jet was put on trial. He was deemed incompatible and was nearly scheduled for deresolution, until Mercury suggested putting him on the grid. It was there that Jet received his Super Lightcycle. In TRON 2.0, this was part of the Vaporware level.
