A Lightcycle is a motorcycle driven by programs in the computer world. The game that the Lightcycle is from was created by User Kevin Flynn. It completely covers the driver in a canopy-like shape and features incredibly fast acceleration and intense speeds. It is rezzed in by the driver through a rod. Once the driver holds the rod out in front of him or her, the Lightcycle immediately Rezzes and forms around the driver while he or she automatically moves into a driving position.

During the reign of the Master Control Program, lightcycles were used in gladiator-style matches on a Game Grid. These gladiator games involved the Lightcycles leaving an impenetrable jetwall behind them. The gamers must avoid the jetwalls at all costs or they will derezz by crashing into them. If a lightcycle is eliminated from the game, whichever color jetwall that the lightcycle leaves behind will fall. The lightcycles in these games have their brakes disabled and cannot be stopped. When on the Game Grid, lightcycles turn at 90-degree angles making it very hard to control. Outside of the Game Grid, the jetwalls are disabled and they are able to turn normally like a regular motorcycle. Another feature of the lightcylce is a communication system that allows drivers on respective teams to coordinate attacks on the game grid...or in the case of Tron, Flynn and Ram,allows them coordinate an escape from the game grid.

Even though lightcycles are very fast and can out maneuver tanks and recognizers, a single direct hit by a tank arrow can destroy the lightcycle and derezz or mortally wound its driver.
