Kevin Flynn is a programmer who had his video games stolen by Ed Dillinger and exploited unfairly. Unable to find incriminating evidence about the plagiarism personally, he is eventually helped out by Lora & Alan Bradley who grant him direct access to computer systems that may hold the incriminating evidence.
The computer system that Kevin Flynn accesses, though, is guarded by the Master Control Program, which uses an experimental laser technology to teleport Flynn into the computer world.
Through his adventures in the computer world, Flynn is able to access the incriminating evidence he needs to prove that Dillinger stole his video games. At the end of the movie, Flynn takes over Dillinger's former job.
