[edit] History
[edit] Background
Flynn's hometown is Paramus, New Jersey, where he was born in about 1949. As a young adult, he had a relationship with Lora Baines, but the two eventually broke it off. Kevin worked as an ENCOM programmer, but got fired after his video games were stolen by Ed Dillinger.
[edit] Tron
After being fired by Dillinger and unable to find incriminating evidence about the plagiarism personally, he eventually gets help from his former lover Lora & her current boyfriend Alan Bradley, who decide to help Flynn get direct access to computer systems that may hold the incriminating evidence.
The computer system that Kevin Flynn accesses, though, is guarded by the Master Control Program, which uses an experimental laser technology to transport Flynn into the computer world.
Shortly after Flynn was digitized, he met Ram, a program who explained to him that he was "a guest of the Master Control Program", and that they were forced to play video games. Flynn responded by boasting that he "plays video games better than anybody". Flynn didn't realize that the games he was going to play were life or death "gladiator" games and soon realized that all of these captive programs were fighting for their lives. Shortly after Flynn's first game (a ring game with an ally conscript, Crom) Flynn, Ram and Tron were sent to the Game Grid to play a lightcycle game. Flynn, having written the lightcycle game program, knew the opponents routes and weaknesses and escaped through a crack in the Game Grid wall that one of Sark's gladiators crashed into.
Through his adventures in the computer world, Flynn is able to access the incriminating evidence he needs to prove that Dillinger stole his video games. Flynn takes over Dillinger's former job.
[edit] 1990s
At around 1990 or 1991, Flynn became depressed and distant, despite his job and his friends. It seemed he "needed" to go back to the computer world. Eventually, he resigned his job at ENCOM and disappeared.
[edit] TR2N
Through the TR2N proof-of-concept trailer, it is confirmed that Kevin Flynn will return for the long-awaited sequel to Tron. In the trailer, he is shown having a beard, and wearing simple clothing while inside the computer world. When he first appears in the trailer, he seems to be meditating and around him are various objects found in the real world, such as candles and metal bowls.[edit] Trivia
- According to the 4th draft of the script for Tron, Flynn's hometown is Paramus, New Jersey.
