An example of an Identity Disk

"Everything you do or learn will be imprinted on this disc..."
―Sark, explaining the Identity Disc's primary function.[src]

Identity Disks (I.D.) or also known as Light Discs are weapons used in the Disk Arena for combat. They have two main uses in combat: blocking an incoming attack or as a thrown projectile weapon. If a direct hit is scored on the opponent, they will instantly be derezzed. Identity Disks are also used to record everything that a program of the Tron Universe sees, does or learns. Identity Disks have the same color as their owner's circuitry. The reason identity discs change in style is due to the change in systems between the original Space Paranoids and the Tron system.

Variants

Z757 13750 R

There are several variants of the Identity Disk: The Sequencer, The Cluster Disc, and The Charger Disc. These seem to be made of more shards. The Sequencer is made of several pieces, and allows the player to throw from 3 to 6 disks at once. The cluster is made of the same pieces in a larger radius. When it's detonated it releases several deadly shards. The Charger Disk allows players to pick up weapons and upgrades from a distance.

Trivia

  • They are now more commonly referred to as Light Discs inside the films' canon. The upgraded version of the Identity Disc features a sleeker design with lit edges, rather than many lit circles on the surface as well as a hollowed center. As a result, they are faster than the original models.
  • In TRON: Legacy, Kevin Flynn's disc is called "The Master Key" which can access the portal to the Real World and when his son Sam escapes with Quorra, he copies the Grid onto a computer chip that resembles the disc and wears it as a necklace.
  • The Identity Disc featured in the first film looked like a regular, off-the-shelf frizbee, with multiple circles drawn on it. The Identity Discs used in Flynn's version of the TRON Universe more closely resemble chakram discs, and have a noticeably-lethal glowing outer edge.
