Guards are security programs who keep order in the computer world. The ICPs in TRON 2.0 are presumably updated versions of these guards.

History and Abilities

The first known guards were part of the MCP's forces, answering to Sark or to his lieutenant. After Clu took control of the Grid, similar guards served him and his generals, keeping order and fighting Beck and other rebel programs.

Guards rank below lieutenants or sentries, who in turn serve commanders (such as Sark, Paige and Pavel) or generals (such as Tesler). They are also outranked by Black Guards. Their duties generally include guarding pit cells and taking or transporting prisoners. They generally appear to serve willingly and hold the same opinions and prejudices held by their superiors. One Guard surrendered when threatened by Beck after the program grabbed his Pike, suggesting they have at least some degree of self-preservation instincts. Additionally Guards were seen relaxing in a club in Argon City, suggesting they possess some free will.

They use long prod-like weapons to stun programs and to block attacks. These weapons are similar to the staffs used by sentries. They have not been seen to use their identity discs as weapons.

Physical Appearance

In the ENCOM System, the guards wore bulky white armor with red/orange circuitry. Each guard wore a cowl, but while the faces of some of the guards were visible, others were not, resulting in the eerie appearance of programs who were headless under their hoods.

On Flynn's Grid, the general look of the armor remained, but it was changed to sleek black and there were both subtle and notable modifications its aesthetics: a tinted face visor was added, the old two-pieced shoulder pauldrons were exchanged for slightly larger one-pieced pauldrons, and the glove-like wrist buckler and forearm bracer were replaced by lighter, less noticeable arm protection.
