Energy

In one scene of the movie, Tron, Ram, and Flynn find a pool of glowing blue liquid in a large crack in the ground. As they drink from this their circuits glow brightly and gives them a slight euphoria. It is a programs nourishment, and is most likely electricity. However this is contradictory to real world program mechanics. A circuit in a computer may need 'energy' or electricity to keep it working, but an individual program does not.

They appear in Tron 2.0 but are renamed 'Source Pools'. This is a quote from the manual about it, 'Coming in contact with Source Pools (standing or wading) will replenish your Energy Cache'.

Also appearing in TRON 2.0 are energy patch routines. A player can walk up to the patch routine and activate it to download energy. There are two types of energy patch routines: green patch routines give a limited amount of energy (usually about 100 points of energy), whereas light blue patch routines give an unlimited amount of energy. The green patch routines are more common than the light blue ones.

Energy in TRON 2.0 does a few things, such as allow the player to fire any weapon other than the Identity Disk; download permission, subroutines, or e-mails; or activate some doors or switches. The player's maximum allowed energy may be increased by going up a version number.
