Yori apartment

Yori's apartment.

The Deleted Love Scene between Tron and Yori is the longest and most controversial of the three scenes that were removed from the movie TRON.

At around 1 minute and 54 seconds, the scene is short, yet contains some of the most complicated backlit animation in the entire movie (according to the filmmakers, over 40 separate elements were used to make the apartment "transform"). The scene also is unique from regular material that Disney has produced due to the fact that it is suggestively sexual in nature.

For many reasons, the scene was removed from the final cut. Director Steven Lisberger has stated that he regretted removing it. It is also noted that the scene was removed so late from post-production that the effects are completed and sound and music have been completed.

Another interesting note is that this is the only scene in any TRON-related media that a program can be seen in clothing other than a helmet and circuitry-clad clothing.

"Morning After" Deleted Scene

A second scene (commonly referred to by the filmmakers as the "morning after" scene) was made. Audio tracks do not exist for the scene, although there is very little dialog spoken. This is the only deleted scene with a CGI shot (by MAGI).

Reasons for deletion

Yori love3

Yori and Tron.

According to Steven Lisberger on the TRON 20th Anniversary Collector's Edition DVD, the scene was deleted because they felt it was too sentimental at the time. In an interview with Visual Effects Supervisor Harrison Ellenshaw, he told a story about having an argument with Lisberger at the parking lot of Technicolor where Lisberger reportedly said that removing the scene interrupted the flow of the entire movie and had to be kept in. Ellenshaw remarked that the scene "added a lot to the show" and that the scene was "whismical", "romantic", "cute" and "sexy".

When being interviewed for the DVD, Bruce Boxleitner said the scene was "confusing" due to the fact that they were playing computer programs, questioning if Tron and Yori were sexual beings or not.

Love Scene from the 4th draft of the script

The fourth draft of the script features an version of the deleted scene that is almost completely different from the final scene.

    314 INT. YORI'S APARTMENT 314

As Tron and Yori enter. The apartment appears to be a box, with one
window overlooking the cityscape, and the I/0 Tower. At first it
looks empty, with strange murals of one dimensional furniture on the
         walls and floors.

                    Why is everything...like this?

                               YORI
                    It's a flat. But wait a micro...

She lays her palm on the wall near the door. The door reappears, and
         a glow starts to fill the room, softly, slowly. Tron looks around;
the flat paintings of furniture are expanding, filling out, becoming
three-dimensional. The room glows a soft rose color, becomes
charming, soothing. It is still small and limited, but the light in
the air and the few pieces of furniture give off a loving, seductive
aura. Tron turns back to Yori, smiling, and stops.

With her hand still on the wall panel, she is glowing absorbing
extra energy, changing. The severe work clothes metamorphosize into
shimmering, diaphanous drapery, twinkling with thousands of
diamond-like points of light. A silvery tinkling SOUND comes from
her robes as she moves forward; her beautiful face, now surrounded
by a soft mane of hair, glows with pleasure at the expression in
Tron's face. She smiles lovingly, and reaches out her hand.

                               YORI
                    Come here.

His face tells the story. The fugitive, returned from long exile, is
being fully rewarded for his efforts.

                               TRON
                    You're beautiful, Yori.

317 SHOT OF THEM BOTH 317

as their hands touch, and the glow springs out between their
         flattened palms.

Tron pulls her close to him, sliding his hand up her arm, leaving a
glowing trace, and her hands move up over his chest.

                               YORI
                    You've grown, big program.

                               TRON
                    I had to...in the games...

They move together into an embrace, but their lips never touch. All
the energy is transmitted through their hands. They sink down onto
what looks like cushions made of stars, their glow increasing. The
room fills with the brilliance of the energy they are giving each
other, and we hear their sighs, as the MUSIC comes up. Each of them
moves their hands over the other, moving slowly, as if they were
trying to touch the other's entire body at once. They roll over and
are enveloped in the cloud of stars...

thumb|400px|right|A deleted scene from the 1982 movie, TRON, where Yori (Cindy Morgan) lures Tron (Bruce Boxleitner) to her bedsit for some digital sex. The scene was deleted, under pressure from a powerful programmers lobby, to perpetuate the myth that there aren't little people in love inside our computers.
