Beta, the main character in TRON: Evolution for the PSP, is a program created by Kevin Flynn in 1985 to become (under Tron's tutelage) a competitor in the first Game Grid Tournament. Although fully customizable in-game, Beta is shown with blue circuitry in the loading screens and in the screen that shows all the competitors in the tournament.

History[]

Betahacking

Beta was created by Kevin Flynn in 1985, he raced against Tron in a Light Cycle race and lost to him, just finishing before him in the race and still sticking with him after the race ended. Beta was present when Tron contacted Flynn. He was trained by Tron in order to compete against other Programs in the Game Arena tournament, which included various games in the Tron system.

Beta was shown to be successful in these games, more successful than Tron and Clu in operating light cycles. Beta's success earned him the appreciation of Tron, who wished him good luck most of the time in the games.

Beta eventually faced off against Clu in a tank game and successfully defeated him in it. Beta was praised for winning the tank game against Clu and received Flynn's Light Cycle as a reward, Flynn told Beta to be cautious with the Light Cycle however.

General information[]

Personality and traits[]

Beta has demonstrated a high proficiency with piloting vehicles (Light Cycles, Light Tanks, and Recognizers), hacking, and hand-to-hand combat. The only personality trait shown so far by Beta is obedience. His prime directive is to win.

Skills and abilities[]

Tron 10 905

During the first Game Grid Tournament Beta proves to be better than Tron and Clu at operating light cycles and light tanks. Beta also proved to be highly capable at piloting Recognizers as well as disc combat. Beta loses his first race against Tron, but then exceeds him in ability; it is arguable that Beta's coding is dynamic and adaptive. He shows no ability to change disc like Anon.

Triva[]

  • Beta was originally a meant to be the name of Beck, the main protagonist of TRON: Uprising though it was eventually changed to Beck. As to why his name changed is unknown, but its possible that the name was changed in order to avoid confusion with this program.
